Born and raised in California's San Joaquin Valley, I earned undergraduate degrees in studio art and art history from the University of California at Berkeley. Influential teachers were Elmer Bischoff and Joan Brown. Receiving my M.F.A. from Mills College, I studied with Jay DeFeo and continued art history coursework in East Asian art. I have attended art residencies in northern California, New Mexico, Japan, Cambodia and Nepal. My artwork has been exhibited both nationally and internationally.
My artwork is an expression of spiritual longing, memory and personal symbolism. Symbolic imagery is firmly rooted in the American tradition of spiritual landscape painting seen in the works of visionary artists like Agnes Pelton, Ralph Albert Blakelock and Charles Burchfield.
